The Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt will be closed for at least four hours tomorrow, Jan 8, to allow avalanche control work to take place.
Work is expected to take place between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., however that could change based on the weather conditions in the area. There is currently a travel advisory in place for that section of the Coquihalla due to the snowfall amounts.
New data indicates there’s 132.1 cm of snow on the ground near the Coquihalla Summit Recreation area. Between 6 p.m. yesterday and 6 a.m. today, there was 8 cm of snow that accumulated on the highway, with a further 2 cm since 6 a.m
A travel advisory is also in place on Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon between Hope and Lytton.
Drivers are asked to be careful if they are on the roads, and to be prepared for extreme weather conditions.
