The interim leader of the BC Green Party is hoping the deal between his party and the ruling NDP doesn’t change when they pick a new boss but he says the party is ready for any scenario.
The Greens have three members in the legislature – outgoing boss Andrew Weaver, interim leader Adam Olsen and Sonia Furstenau.
If Furstenau becomes the new leader, the Confidence and Supply Agreement with the NDP stands, if not then a new leader would need to run in Weaver’s riding of Oak Bay-Gordon Head, something that’s far from a slam-dunk win.
On the NL Morning News, Olsen said they’re prepared for anything. “We do have an agreement though that commits us to working to October of 2021. That’s the next scheduled election and so while it’s prudent to be planning for all scenarios, I think the one scenario we should all be working toward is making government work.”
Olsen spoke about the CASA agreement as well between his party and the NDP. “It’s an agreement that we all signed. It’s not an agreement between Mr Horgan and former BC Green leader Andrew Weaver, it’s an agreement between all of us.
“So, I think that’s the commitment we go to the table with. There still is the votes at the table, it’s about managing the house properly, about making sure the government works and that’s the commitment that we have.”
Anyone throwing their hat in the ring has until April 15.
