Kamloops staff says there have been some glitches in managing two downtown parkades in the first two weeks.
Bylaw services manager Tammy Blundell says the city has a bylaw officer stationed at the parkades, on Lansdowne and Seymour Streets, during peak hours this week.
That’s scaled back from the first two weeks of 2020.
“We knew there were going to be some challenges. So what we did is, from January 1st to last Friday, we put officers on site the whole time during the day for permit holders. Thank goodness we did, because there was some challenges on the same days there was an event, that kind of thing.”
Blundell says the new technology will allow permit holders to scan an access card before the gate opens to let them in, and indicates there have been some initial flaws to sort out.
“With any new technology, with any new system, always comes challenges. Part of the message that I would love to get out to the public and those permit holders, is I thank you for your patience. The city thanks you for your patience, and bylaw services especially.”
The city took over managing those parkades on New Years Day from the Kamloops Downtown Parking Corporation, and is moving to an automated system.
The KDPC had operated the two parkades for more than 40 years.
