Lots of people make New Years resolutions to get more physically active but the Kamloops Adult Learning Society wants us to get our brains more active.
It doesn’t matter if you’re retired or just have a lot of time on your hands, taking a course is a great way to keep our minds working.
Society spokesperson and instructor Jan Petrar says the courses they’re offering don’t come with the stress of being enrolled at, say TRU. “No exams, no home work, no pressure. You’re never put on the spot to say something or have a comment or ask a question though if you wish to, you’re welcome to.”
She says it’s a lot more relaxed than what we may have experienced in high school or university. “You can take notes if you want to or you can just sit back and relax. I tend to be note taker, that’s just the way I am but others just relax.”
“And most classes have between 20 and 30 people. You never know who you might meet, an old friend or a new friend.”
Petrar it’s important to step out of your comfort zone. “Learning for the joy of it. And actually I encourage people to just take a class that you know nothing about. Just pick a science area or math or history, don’t stick to what you’re, perhaps might say, interested in.”
They have morning and afternoon courses Monday to Friday and Petrar says they’re reasonably priced, working out to about seven to ten dollars per class.
