Offices opened up this week in the interior to help laid off forestry workers transition into new jobs but at least one area MLA isn’t impressed.
Kamloops South Thompson Liberal Todd Stone gave credit to Adrian Dix and even Dave Eby for work they’ve done.
While on the NL Morning News, Stone was asked if he would give any props to Forestry Minister Doug Donaldson for opening the five offices including those in Clearwater and 100 Mile House.
He was emphatic with his answer. “No, I’m not because it’s a pittance.”
“Here we are, one year later since this forestry crisis really began to unfold and all the mill shutdowns and the lay offs started to happen and what has the government done?
He didn’t stop there when talking about the overall job John Horgan’s NDP have been doing on the file. “They clawed back the royal dividend fund. The took a portions of those funds to put back into communities to open up a few transition offices which is what these are, which is really trying to get people to move out of their communities or to land a little more softly in retirement. That’s not what these communities need.”
Stone went on to say “That’s not what the thousands of forestry workers around the interior and the north need. They need this government to show up and support them through this transition.”
