The honours keep on coming for the Kamloops Blazers, as captain Zane Franklin has been named the WHL Player of the Week, for the week ending on Jan. 19.
It’s after he put up 10 points (2G, 8A) as the Blazers won all four games they played last week, to extend their win streak to eight games.
Franklin’s week began with a four point night in a 6-3 win over Spokane on Tuesday, before another four points in Friday’s 12-3 win against Tri-City. He put up another two points in Saturday’s 9-0 win against Tri-City.
While Franklin was held off the scoresheet in Sunday’s 4-0 road win against the Vancouver Giants, he still finished with a plus-one rating in the 250th regular season game of his WHL career.
His exploits have pushed him into the WHL scoring lead with 72 points (25G, 47A) through 44 games, career-best totals in both assists and points. Franklin’s 47 assists by the way is good for the league lead.
He joins his cousin Orrin Centazzo who was named WHL player of the week for the week ending Dec. 29, 2019, and forward Connor Zary who was named WHL player of the month for October.
