The Mustard Seed Kamloops says its emergency shelter is still at capacity despite temperatures warming up.
Managing director Mario Borba says the emergency shelter, which can hold up to 30 people, was above capacity all of last week with 36 people.
He says as of yesterday, that was still the case.
“For a few days we had 36 (people). We only have five extra mats available, but we put some mats on the floor for a 36th person to sleep. And then after that, we would turn people to other available resources,” Borba says.
“After that, because ASK (Wellness) has a contract with a cab company, we would put them in a cab and send them to available warming centres in the city.”
Borba says the only difference this week is that the shelter doesn’t have it’s warming centre open, with temperatures about 20 degrees warmer than a week ago.
He also says the shelter is looking for donations of winter coats or socks. Anyone who has those clothing items to donate is asked to drop them off at the shelter, at 181 Victoria Street West.
