B.C. teachers haven’t had a contract since Canada Day and job action has not been on the table but things could be about to change according to one of the province’s top political reporters.
The province wanted a deal in place by the end of the last school year, then it was the end of summer, then the end of September.
Now as the end of January approaches, the B.C Teachers Federation is losing patience as Global’s Keith Baldry said while appearing on the NL Morning News.
“I got a couple of emails yesterday from teachers who say they went to some teacher local meetings in Metro Vancouver and were told to get ready for a strike vote and potential job action.”
“It’s been quiet with the B.C.T.F. with no contract but I think there’s starting to be talk of getting a little more active on some job action.”
“Whether that’s rotating strikes or withdrawal of extra curricular activities I have no idea but I think the gloves are slowly being shed in that simmering battle.”
Federation President Teri Mooring said on Radio NL in November she was optimistic things wouldn’t come down to job action but that was two months ago.
