Pot hole season has hit Kamloops early this year and the city is looking at some new options to fight an old problem.
Street Manager for the City of Kamloops, Glen Farrow was on the NL Morning News and said staying on top of problem is always a challenge.
“We’re always looking at products that will last longer so we’re not going back to the same location, same spot, day after day based on the moisture coming in there, contracting and expanding of the asphalt and material in it. It’s really tricky as water continues to roll down our streets.”
Farrow says they’re always looking for an alternative to the traditional asphalt that’s been used for years.
“There’s two different products we’re working through right now and thus far the results have been okay,” he noted. “We put one down at the corner Mission Flats and West Victoria St and it lasted for quite a while but now it, as well, has failed.”
“We are looking at a product that is actually activated and works better with the presence of water. It’s quite costly but if we’re able to fill a hole and get months out of it rather than hours or days, that’s a significant improvement to us.”
The city encourages Kamloopsians to report pothole locations, but Farrow points out they already know about issues on the main roads like Summit Drive and Tranquille Road.
And so Farrow is asking for locations that city crews may not see on a regular basis.
