As the BC Liberals begin the nomination process for a candidate in at least 11 ridings, the Premier was asked about the possibility of an early election.
B.C.’s next provincial election is currently set for October 16, 2021, and Premier John Horgan says he is not planning to call an early election.
“Quite frankly the only people that seem to be clamouring for an election are the BC Liberals,” he said. “I talked to the Green Party. Mr. Weaver is now sitting as an independent. He wants to carry on. The Green Party wants to carry on. My colleagues want to carry on.”
He went on to say that even the people of B.C. are not asking for an election.
“They’re seeing stable government, and the lowest unemployment in the country, best credit rating, balanced budgets,” Horgan added. “There’s no need in my mind to call an election, but if the BC Liberals want to nominate candidates, that’s entirely up to them.”
The BC Liberals have been saying in recent months that an election could happen ‘at any time.’
