The city of Kamloops is asking residents for feedback in to an electric vehicle (EV) and electric bike (e-bike) strategy, to support the province’s commitment to implementing electric vehicles.
Sustainability Services Supervisor Glen Cheetham says the strategy will serve as a road map to transition to electricity-powered transportation.
“Embracing EVs and E-bikes in our community is a crucial step in lowering our emissions,” he said, noting the community feedback will determine how Kamloops will support EVs and E-bikes.
Both EVs and E-bikes are zero-emission vehicles with very low operating costs, according to Cheetham. He says the city is committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, two-third of which come transportation choices.
“Increasing the use of vehicles powered by electricity could significantly reduce our community’s emissions over time,” Cheetham added.
The city’s EV and E‑Bike Strategy will include targets, policies, and actions on the ways that the city will influence EV and E-Bike use. Residents are asked to share their feedback by completing a five-minute online survey by Feb. 28.
“Survey responses will provide insight into EV and E-bike interest and will indicate levels of support for different strategies to support EV and E-bike adoption,” noted Cheetham.
There is an EV & E-Bike Strategy engagement session scheduled for Feb. 26 at the Valley First Lounge at the Sandman Centre.
