The city of Kamloops is getting closer to approving its 2020 budget and the mayor is hoping to see the tax increase as proposed come down a little bit.
After accepting supplemental budget items this week, the current proposed tax increase is about 3%.
Mayor Ken Christian says that number as it stands is still very much up in the air. “That would be dependent on other sources of funding, that would be dependent whether council agrees to all of those and it would be dependent upon our report from the BC assessment authority about our assessments being reviewed in Kamloops. And it would depend on that prior year’s surplus.”
Christian stresses that nothing is finalized yet. “We’ve said through the process, i mean it ebbs and flows as we move through it. But, somewhere under 3% is where I’d be comfortable as I believe most of council would, but we have to do what we need to do.”
The public can have their say on February 20th at Sandman Centre. Online feedback will also be accepted. The last budget meeting will be held February 25th where council is set to finalize the document.
