The BC Trucking Association president says he hopes a road maintenance issue at a brake check along the Coquihalla is a one-off and not the standard.
Dave Earle says last month, the weather conditions at one brake check on the highway caused a slow-speed crash when two trucks weren’t able to stop.
“In fact, the responding RCMP member got out of his vehicle, slipped and fell. The brake check had just been missed, so it was an atrocious condition. That seems to be an outlier, and the Ministry [of Transportation] is very attentive, as are the contractors, to make sure that they’re discharging all of their contractual obligations. So we’re hopeful that’s more of a one-off miss, as opposed to any type of pattern.”
Earle says those brake checks are part of the highway system and need to be maintained all the same.
