A Kamloops city councillor says daycare space is in a crisis in the city right now.
Denis Walsh was one of the ‘yes’ voters when council voted against the Children’s Circle Daycare leasing part of the Stuart Wood School.
One of the reasons being Tk’emlups had not yet given approval.
“And whether that came a day later, after we discussed it, I’m not sure on the timeline. We had permission, but we didn’t know it when we voted. That’s all we were looking for. Because it’s not healthy for a building to remain empty.”
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Walsh says the Children’s Circle Daycare has between 50-80 kids, and if they can’t find a temporary space by this June then they’d have to go back to their parents.
“It was a perfect fit for the daycare. I think it should be a permanent daycare, personally, I don’t think we need another arts building in the downtown core. And daycare is in a crisis right now in our city, you ask anybody who has children, it’s really tough to find room in a daycare.”
The daycare society is hoping the city will find a way to reconsider its request.
