After first reporting that all three occupants in a fatal collision on Sunday afternoon had died of their injuries, Kamloops RCMP now say a five-year-old child is still alive.
In a correction issued by RCMP, Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the younger child is alive, but remains in ‘grave condition’ in a hospital in Vancouver.
A 47-year-old man was killed at the scene on Highway 5A near Stump Lake, south of Kamloops, on Feb. 23, while an eight year old also died in hospital as a result of the crash.
Shelkie says police won’t be sharing further information regarding the child’s status out of respect for the family’s privacy.
All three people in the car were from southern Alberta, according to police.
Southeast District Central Interior Traffic Services and the BC Coroners Service are investigating the crash.
