The Kamloops Member of Parliament is once again throwing her support behind an Ontario MP who’s running for leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada.
Cathy McLeod is backing Erin O’Toole – a former Veterans Affairs Minister – who she sees as one of the front-runners, alongside Peter MacKay.
“I don’t want flash, I was solid leadership and I think Erin is the candidate that best sort of matches solid leadership, smart leadership in terms of where we are as a country and where we need to go,” McLeod told NL News.
O’Toole, the MP for Durham in Ontario served as a military helicopter navigator, and a lawyer before running for office in a federal by-election in 2012.
“Certainly I’ve known Erin for many years, and of course, know him to be a man of integrity,” said McLeod, who’s been the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP since 2008. “I know him to be very articulate. I know him to be very wise.”
Erin O’Toole finished third in the 2017 Conservative Party leadership race behind current leader Andrew Scheer and the current Peoples Party of Canada Leader, Maxime Bernier.
The Conservative Party will pick its new leader on June 27.
Our nation is in crisis, from the pulp mill closure in Nova Scotia, to energy project cancellations in Alberta, to the shuttering of forestry mills in my home province of B.C. @ErinOTooleMP understands that one province’s challenges are the nation’s economic concern 1/3 pic.twitter.com/9M1zKnuOns

It’s time to usher in a new chapter of leadership under someone who is proud of Canada’s diverse resource economy, and who is willing to go to bat for us on the international stage. 2/3
