Kamloops Fire Rescue is warning people about ice on the river, after a close call in Westsyde this morning.
Fire crews were called to 4300 block of Westsyde Road just after 9 a.m., after a dog fell through ice on the North Thompson River, but the owner managed to rescue it by the time crews arrived.
“The ice on the rivers at any time aren’t particularly safe to be on. And certainly at this time of year, ice starts to melt and with the warming temperatures and whatnot it is important to stay clear of the ice. Especially your pets,” platoon captain Wade Lindoff.
Lindoff says KFR will always respond to those calls, and says it puts everyone at risk when pets stray onto the ice.
In early March of 2019, KFR rescued a man and his dog on the South Thompson River at Pioneer Park, when the dog fell through ice and the owner went out to try to and save it and fell as well.
