Kamloops RCMP have a man in custody after he was seen driving dangerously in the 800-block of Shuswap Road around 2 a.m. this morning.
Staff Sgt. Mat van Laer says the suspect was seen in what turned out to be a car with stolen plates, as he tried to drive across a field towards the river to avoid police.
“Once his vehicle got stuck, the driver fled on foot,” said van Laer. “A police dog was called to the scene and successfully located the driver a few hundred meters away, hiding up a tree.”
He says all information is being forwarded to the Kamloops Crown Counsel office to assess potential charges.
“The quick response and containment from our officers tonight made for a successful arrest, without injuries to anybody including the suspect” added van Laer.
