A Kamloops resident who has spearheaded efforts to stop the time change says now is the prime time for the Premier to stop the time change.
Tara Holmes was one of two Kamloops residents who originally advocated the province to stay on Daylight Saving Time permanently, before a province-wide survey showed overwhelmingly that that’s what people want.
She says in the interim, it won’t matter much if we have a one-hour time difference with western U.S. states.
“This part is getting really confusing, because the point I always refer to is Alberta. Alberta is one hour different than us and we still trade with Alberta. There is no problem being one hour apart. And I think in the big picture, they have their votes there, in Washington state and Oregon, and they are in favor of staying on daylight as well so we know it’s going to happen,” Holmes tells the NL Morning News.
“As far as health and safety, there’s more countries in the world that don’t observe the time change. The European Union is stopping in 2021. Saskatchewan, they don’t change their clocks. It’s not for farming, it was brought in in a war to save energy. The war is over, we don’t need it anymore, and it’s just time to move forward.”
Meanwhile, Yukon Premier Sandy Silver announced this week that the territory will be stopping the time change after springing forward this weekend.
Holmes says the irony is Silver committed to following suit when B.C. ends the time change, but the territory has now done it first.
