Thompson Rivers University is calling off non-essential travel outside of Canada.
The school says it is also reviewing upcoming events based on the provincial restrictions announced yesterday, and it says the Spring Open House will be canceled and that its I-Days are postponed.
Meanwhile the school says it expects “minimal” disruption to classes since it has smaller class sizes. It says arrangements might have to be made for final exams which are typically written in larger groups.
It says “most other activities” are continuing, and NL News has asked for more information from TRU staff. As of this morning, TRU Wolfpack sports teams were still practicing, while junior and professional sports leagues and teams have postponed play.
“Recognizing, however, that the situation around COVID-19 is rapidly changing, we are actively monitoring the situation. This includes conversations with our regional health authority, with the Ministry of Advanced Education Skills and Training, and with leaders of other universities,” the school says in a statement to media.
School officials recommend people take all measures to prevent the spread of the virus, by staying home if you’re sick, washing your hands and using proper etiquette for coughing and sneezing.
