As the province bans public gatherings of more than 50 people because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Western Canada Theatre is cancelling some shows and postponing others.
All performances of Cafe Daughter at the 150-seat Pavilion Theatre have been cancelled. As well, all performances of Chelsea Hotel: The Songs of Leonard Cohen and The Boy in the Moon have been postponed indefinitely.
Cafe Daugher opened last Thursday and was scheduled to run through March 21. Chelsea Hotel was to run from March 26 to April 4 at the Sagebrush Theatre, while The Boy in the Moon was slated for April 15 to 19 at Pavilion Theatre.
“As a not-for-profit, charitable theatre we ask for the community’s support as we work through this challenging situation,” said Managing Director Evan Klassen.
He is urging people to donating the value of a ticket back to the theatre for a charitable tax-receipt or to convert the ticket to an account credit to be put towards a future WCT show.
“If neither of these options are possible, we will refund the value of a ticket,” Klassen added. “Due to high call volumes, we ask that all ticket holders please refrain from contacting the box office. Our staff will reach out to you in the coming weeks.”
As well, WCT’s offices and box officers are closed to the public, effective immediately.
