The Kamloops Golf and Country Club is opening its doors on Friday in this new reality of social distancing while other sports and indoor facilities are shutdown because of COVID-19.
Head Professional Ian Henson says golf provides some relief in this new climate.
“We’re encouraging people to come out. Golf is one of the few things that you can do. It’s healthy exercise where you can get outside, especially with all the sports facilities that have had to close,” he told NL Sports. “This is one where you can experience social distancing and still have fresh air, and walk around and have some enjoyment in life.”
He says there are new social distancing protocols is in place. For instance, there are no rakes in the bunker, and you’re encouraged to leave the flag in the ground, and also avoid post-round handshakes with your group. Another requirement is keeping your distance from other groups.
Henson says the tee sheet for the weekend is filling up.
Rivershore Golf Club also says it has adopted new social distancing golf rules and etiquette. They have been open now for a few weeks.
