Health officials have announced 45 new COVID-19 cases in B.C., bringing the provincial total to 231.
No new deaths have been reported, but Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says two of the new cases are in the Interior Health region, bringing the total to nine across IHA.
Earlier today, Selkirk Medical Group in Revelstoke reported the first case in that community. The identity of that case is not clear.
Health officials in B.C. have declined to give more information on more specific locations for each case other than stating the health authority where the case happened, and only stating specifics in facilities where there are outbreaks.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says more than 17,000 people have now been tested in B.C. for the virus, roughly 10,700 people have been tested in the past five days.
There are 13 people who are in hospital with COVID-19, seven in intensive care. Five patients have recovered.
“This virus is spreading in our community,” Henry said on Wednesday. “These are temporary but they are extremely important right now.”
She reiterated the importance for people to continue to social distance from one another, along with proper hand hygiene and staying home if you are sick to prevent the spread of the virus.
“We’re dealing today with things that happened ten to fourteen days ago,” she added, saying that our actions today will determine what the next few weeks and months could like.
