B.C. health officials are reporting 40 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. today as well as one additional death.
The latest death is a senior who was a resident at the Lynn Valley Care Centre in North Vancouver, which is where seven of the eight COVID-19 deaths in the province have happened.
Three of those new cases reported today are in the Interior Health Authority, bringing the total across the IHA to 12.
There have now been 12 deaths reported across the country from the virus. Alberta reported its first death today, while Quebec has also reported one death and Ontario has reported two.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Adrian Dix says the MSP wait period will be waived for people returning to B.C. who have been out of country longer than allowed.
Dix also says the province’s COVID-19 self-assessment tool has been used more than 1.15 million times since coming online on Monday.
As for supplies, he says more ventilators are on the way; he declined to say how many have been ordered but says the public will know when they arrive. And treatment, Dix reiterates there is no vaccine for the virus, saying “if people are saying there is a cure on your social media, block them, and stop following them.”
