The Kamloop-Thompson School District has already determined when students get back to learning.
Superintendent Alison Sidow says teachers will start to get back to work next week and distance learning for all students will start on March 30th.
She says the model of learning will be decided on by teachers for their individual classes.
“What we really need to do is draw on the expertise of our tremendously committed and passionate teachers, because they’re the ones who are going to find solutions. They know their learners, they have the tools, they have the skills. So what we’ve done is we’re bringing all of our staff back next week, they will put together programs that will best serve our kids over the next month, maybe two months,” Sidow tells NL News.
“Principals are beginning to think about what that will look like and how they might support their teachers. We also have a lot of what we call non-enrolling teachers. We have some non-enrolling teachers who will be developing resources and materials and support for teachers who might not be quite sure about how to reach out and connect with students at a distance.”
Sidow says learning might not necessarily be online for some students, saying there are families that may not have the connectivity.
“Some teachers may want to schedule individual appointments to deliver materials and instruction, and then check in with them through phone or other means. So we’re looking at all kinds of options, depending on students, their specific needs and their location.”
The school district’s food program will also be restarting on April 6th.
Schools province-wide were shut down earlier this week because of COVID-19.
