B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer says the province has 48 new cases of COVID-19 since Saturday’s update, for a total of 472 cases, 30 of which are in the Interior Health area.
Three new deaths also being reported, a resident at the Lynn Valley Care Centre in North Vancouver, a resident at Vancouver’s Haro Park Care Centre, and a person who lived in the Fraser Health region.
Dr. Bonnie Henry says there are now 33 people in hospital, 14 of which are in ICU. As well, officials say 100 people have now recovered from COVID-19 and have been released from isolation.
“We do need to be sure we’re addressing some of those issues we have seen with people congregating in groups, often outside where it’s very visible,” she said. “If you’re not in self-isolation, yes, you can go outside, but only go with your family members in small groups. Maintain those distances.”
Speaking on Monday, Dr. Henry says is has been a challenge for labs to keep up with testing, but she says the backlog on tests is almost done, with the province ramping up testing capacity. That said, the province is still continue to focus on testing healthcare workers and community clusters.
She says there are people with COVID-19 symptoms who may have this disease but maintains that not everyone needs to be tested. However, those cases she says will still count among the province’s cases.
Health Minister Adrian Dix added the province is now testing between 3,300 and 3,600 people per day.
Officials will soon release numbers on these patients with COVID-19 who were diagnosed by a doctor and not a test, based on their symptoms and possible exposure history.
