Teck Resources is reducing operations by 50 per cent for two weeks at several operations in B.C. and Alberta mines due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That includes its Highland Valley copper mine near Logan Lake, as well as operations in Elkview, Cardinal River, Fording River, Green Hills, and Line Creek, and the move will be reevaluated at that time.
“All employees available for work will continue to be paid as normal during this two-week period,” a statement from Teck said. “Production will continue at sites on a reduced basis, in addition to essential services such as safety and environmental management.”
This reduction in production is in addition to other measures to protect the health and safety of employees and the communities where Teck operations are located. Among them, is enhanced disinfection protocols, reducing capacity on buses, working from home, and screening contractors and external visitors.
“We are continuing to work with our unions and following the guidance of government and public health authorities, and will adapt our response as necessary as this situation continues to evolve,” noted the statement.
