Hillside Stadium is being shut down in Kamloops because people aren’t following social distancing guidelines as much as they need to be, according to the mayor.
Ken Christian says it’s unfortunate, but says it’s a decision that had to be made by the city’s Emergency Operations Centre amid the COVID-19 pandemic and widespread concerns of people not following social distancing recommendations.
“We will not hesitate to close down other public spaces or facilities if we continue to observe risk taking behaviours,” Christian says in a news release.
Yesterday, the city closed all 46 playgrounds that it operates and also put up signage about social distancing at green spaces, skate parks, dog parks and courts.
All indoor recreational facilities were closed down by the city as well as of a week ago, March 17.
Social distancing recommendations from government say to keep two metres away from other people at all times, and to avoid crowds, gatherings, handshakes and common greetings.
