The 2020 edition of the Kamloops International Baseball tournament has been cancelled because of COVID-19.
In a statement, the tournament executive says the decision was made to ensure the safety of the teams, volunteers, and fans.
“We understand the difficulty that this has put on each and every one of you but you must understand that we need to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 and protect the health of all people, said the statement.
“While the full extent and impact felt from the COVID-19 outbreak remains unknown the direction from the government is to restrict large gatherings, travel and physical interaction.”
The tournament features teams from the United States and Canada, which would be difficult given the restrictions on non-essential travel.
“We need to respect this issue and take socially responsible action.”
The focus now will turn to preparing for the 2021 edition of the tournament.
