B.C.’s top doctor is reporting four new deaths and 53 new cases of COVID-19 in the province, for a total of 1,174 cases of the virus.
Three of the four deaths reported today are linked to the Lynn Valley Care Centre and the Haro Park Care Centre in the Lower Mainland, for a total of 35 deaths.
In all, there are 22 care homes affected with COVID-19, which accounts for 176 of B.C.’s cases.
Provincial health officer Doctor Bonnie Henry says many Canadians are on their way back from countries where COVID-19 has spread more rapidly.
“You must know that when you get back, you need to immediately self-isolate for 14 days. That’s how we protect our families, that’s how we protect our communities. And that is without question and without exception.”
In the Interior Health region there have been 126 confirmed cases of the virus. That’s an increase of five cases from Thursday.
More to come.
