Councillors in the District of Logan Lake have voted against any increases to property tax, garbage and recycling rates, or sewer rates in 2020 because of COVID-19.
It comes after a special council budget meeting held on Thursday, with the decision coming as residents and and businesses in Logan Lake are feeling the economic impacts of the novel coronavirus.
“We understand these are extraordinary times, and we want the community to know we are working hard to lessen the economic impacts moving forward,” said Mayor Robin Smith, in a statement. “This is a top priority for us, and we will work very hard to continue delivering community services while doing our part to lessen the financial burden.”
Smith says critical projects and purchases that will still go ahead this year includes buying a new garbage and recycling truck as well as roof repairs to the Recreation Centre Plant Room in Logan Lake.
Those expenses will be covered by surpluses in 2019.
In addition, District council voted in favour of supplementing its depleted water reserve account with $100,000 that came from the Logan Lake Community Forest.
