A record breaking spring food drive has the Executive Director for the Kamloops Food Bank feeling confident about the next six months.
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Bernadette Siracky says that is despite the uncertain future that lies ahead with the COVID-19 pandemic.
And she is expecting demand at the food bank to increase over the coming months.
“But I also see from this type of support in giving us financial support, Kamloops is setting us up to support the anticipated increase in need here,” she said. “I believe that we are going to be set to meet the need for whomever comes to our door.”
Siracky says Kamloopsians donated 70,000 pounds of food on Saturday, which filled seven sea cans at the Food Bank.
“If you have never used this food bank before, please come. We are here to help you,” she added. “Kamloops has ensured we have the food to give you, and this is a respectful space so please come here without judgement. We want to help you. That’s what we are here for.”
Going into the food drive, Siracky says she was confident that the food drive would have been a success, despite the economic concerns caused by COVID-19.
