A new Tim Hortons is going to be built on the North Shore.
Kamloops council has approved a building permit by an 8-1 vote for the new drive-thru restaurant at 780 Windsor Avenue.
Councillor Denis Walsh was against it, and asked about road safety for pedestrians in that area.
“As far as safety goes, I will say this, I’ve seen a lot worse drive-thrus where the vehicles back up onto the roadways. This is well designed internally. If there’s queing happening, it’s not going to queue onto the road, it’s going to queue into the parking lot of the development itself. So I’ve seen a lot of worse situations, this is actually pretty good,” Marvin Kwiatkowski says, the city’s director of development services.
Kwiatkowski also says the developer will be required to build a sidewalk along Windsor Avenue, and sidewalks from the building connecting to Windsor Avenue and 8th Street.
He also explains that drive-thru restaurants are discouraged in KAMPLAN in the downtown core, the North Shore town centre and the Tranquille corridor, and points out this location is outside of that.
The Tim Hortons is on the same plot of land as the Cooper Centre, which will be the future home of Kamloops Search and Rescue.
