City staff are hopeful that a second ride-sharing company approved in the Interior has plans to come to Kamloops.
Business license inspector Dave Jones was asked if he knows the plans for the Victoria-based Lucky To Go, which last week was granted a ride-sharing license in Region 4, which includes Kamloops.
“I know I spoke to the management on this company in the past, and they definitely did have some interest in coming to Kamloops. So I reached out to determine whether or not they do plan on moving into Kamloops and the Okanagan regions, and have that discussion about what the business plan would look like for them.”
Lucky to Go joins Kabu Ride as the only companies with ride-sharing licenses in B.C.’s interior, although neither have firm plans to start operating here at this point.
Jones also says it’s not clear how ride-sharing companies will be impacted in their plans by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’ll be interesting for those companies that have been approved, whether it’s in our region or another region, what their plan is now with this COVID-19 pandemic. So I would think there’s some caution being used, and they’re probably determining when they should open their doors.”
