A baby boy from the Metro Vancouver area was killed in a crash on Highway 97C, west of Loon Lake Road this past Saturday.
RCMP Traffic Services Cpl. Mike Halskov says the single vehicle crash happened around 11 a.m. on April 25, when an east bound SUV left the highway and rolled over.
“Upon arrival it was determined that an east bound SUV with a family of three left the roadway and rolled, ejecting the couple’s infant son and injuring both parents,” said Halskov. “At this time, there is no evidence to suggest any criminal act contributed to the cause of this collision.”
Halskov says the baby’s father who was driving sustained minor injuries, while the mother who was in the passenger’s seat suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and had to be taken to hospital. He says both adults were wearing seat belts while the baby was secured in an appropriate child seat at the time of the crash.
In addition, road and weather conditions at the time of the crash were reported to be good, according to Halskov.
Both the RCMP’s Central Interior Traffic Services and the BC Coroners Service are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call CITS in Merritt at 250-378-4262.
