A cold front is expected to bring unseasonable May weather to Kamloops and the southern Interior this evening.
Environment Canada is forecasting winds in Kamloops, and across the South Thompson, gusting to 60-70 kilometres per hour when the system moves in early this evening. Wind gusts could be as high as 80 km/h in the Fraser Canyon, and 60-70 km/h winds are also forecast for the Shuswap and the North Okanagan.
Meanwhile, this system is expected to bring 5-10 centimetres of snow on the Coquihalla tonight between Hope and Merritt. Strong winds are also possible on mountain passes as well.
The special weather statement includes the Okanagan Connector east of Merritt as well, which is expected to see 2-5 cm of snow tonight.
Mandatory winter tire requirements on most mountain passes just ended two days ago, on April 30.
