There was not a spike in COVID-19 cases related to non-essential travel over Easter long weekend, according to B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer.
Doctor Bonnie Henry was asked during yesterday’s media briefing, now that we are well past the incubation period from that weekend.
“We have not seen a spike related to a relatively low level of travel that happened over the Easter weekend. We certainly have not seen introduction into some of the communities that were very concerned. So that’s good, it means people were paying attention and taking the advice that we gave them about non-essential travel.”
Henry is hopeful that on May Long weekend, people will, again, not travel if they don’t need to, especially to smaller communities with limited healthcare options.
“Not going to places where they may not have the capacity to support you if you become ill. And ensuring that we are taking the measures, across the province, that will reduce our risk of transmitting to anybody.”
Henry also says we don’t always know people’s circumstance, and says there may be a very good reason for why someone is travelling, and she says people need to be considerate of that.
