Kamloops RCMP arrested three men who were out without permission from their probation officers, after leaving the Vision Quest Recovery Society in Logan Lake.
Police were called around 10:00 this morning after the men reportedly rented a room at a hotel on Columbia Street. When police arrived all three fled out the window and into a cab.
The cab company provided a drop-off location and two men were arrested on Kitchener Crescent near the beach. The 3rd man got away. Staff Sergeant Matt Van Laer says in order to try and catch him they shut down part of Tranquille.
“Unfortunate, interrupted this beautiful sunny day for some of our local residents there as we were asking them to remain indoors and allow the dog to do his work and try to track this third suspect. It’s quite a heavy foot traffic area, lots of people there, so it made the work for the dog a little bit harder and we were not able at first instance to get to this gentleman.”
At around 2:20 this afternoon, police returned to the area after a call from the public. A perimeter was set up right away, causing another short closure of Tranquille Road. “Thanks to that response we were able to apprehend him, he ended up walking face to face with one of our members and arrested without incident and that’s the most important part.”
Van Laer says two of the suspects are in their early 20’s, from Fort St John, while the third suspect who was arrested last is in his early 30’s from Surrey.
“We’re very thankful for the understanding and the patience of the Kamloops residents that were affected twice today by our response.”
“The public deserves to know, first of all that we acknowledge that it did cause some inconvenience, but it was also thanks to their participation and collaboration that it was successful.”
