In joining the rest of Kamloops in mourning the Snowbirds and the loss of Captain Jenn Casey, the Blazers say they want to have some sort of a tribute during the next WHL season.
That’s according to Blazers COO Don Moores, who says the Blazers and the Canadian Armed Forces have a strong connection.
“Every year we have the military appreciation day and the 409 tactical squadron come in from Cold Lake. We get to know those guys that come in every year,” Moores told NL Sports. “We’ve got the Rocky Mountain Rangers, the Anavets, the Legion and of course the Snowbirds are just an extension of that, so it was really a tough weekend.”
“We can’t imagine how tough it is on the Snowbird team with Capt. Jenn Casey passing away and her family and of course Capt. Richard MacDougall, and we certainly hope that he’s healing as well.”
Moores says there will be a time of mourning, noting the Blazers will honour the victims when the time is appropriate.
“I was really overwhelmed. I went out to Fulton field [on Monday], and the First Nations were out there with a Prayer Circle and hundreds of Kamloopsians out there as well just honouring Capt. Casey and the rest of the crew, and so I was really proud to be a part of that,” Moores added.
