There will be a procession through the streets of Halifax this weekend to honour Capt. Jennifer Casey, the Snowbirds public affairs officer, who was killed in a crash last Sunday in Kamloops.
In an statement, Armed Forces public affairs officer Capt. Jamie Tobin says the body of Capt. Casey is scheduled to reach her hometown on Sunday evening.
He says there will be a brief ceremony on the tarmac of Halifax Stanfield International Airport, near the Shell Aerocentre around 5 p.m. local time, followed by a funeral procession through the streets of Halifax, the details of which will be made public on Saturday.
Spectators are being encouraged to wear the Snowbirds colours – red and white – or Montreal Canadiens jerseys, Tragically Hip apparel, or Star Wars clothing – all things that Jenn was a fan of, according to her family.
Capt. Richard MacDougall of Moncton, N.B., the pilot of the plane survived Sunday’s crash with serious but non-life threatening injuries. He made a brief public appearance outside Royal Inland Hospital on Thursday night.
The Snowbirds were on a cross-country tour aimed at boosting the spirits of Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic, an idea which was the brainchild of Capt. Casey. They flew into Kamloops on last Saturday, May 16.
The funeral procession will be live streamed on CF Snowbirds, Royal Canadian Air Force, and Canadian Armed Forces Facebook pages.
