The organizer of a memorial for Capt. Jenn Casey and the Snowbirds at Kamloops Airport doesn’t think Kamloopsians will forget about the crash nine days ago that claimed the life of the Snowbirds public affairs officer.
Speaking to NL News, Andrea Holt says its a miracle that the pilot – Capt. Richard MacDougall – was the only person injured in the crash.
“I know a lot of people are saying that he is a hero, and I know myself, I’ve played that scenario a hundred times in my head,” he said. “If he wouldn’t have done what he did in those last seconds, that plane could have taken out a lot more than it did, and it could have been far more tragic.”
While Snowbirds team members have returned back to their home base of Moose Jaw, the planes will remain grounded in Kamloops for the foreseeable future.
“I know that I’ve heard hundreds of people talking about how the plane landed the way it did, how it just could have been catastrophic, how it could have taken out so many more houses, how no one was walking there,” Holt added.
“I think so many people think it’s a miracle, I know I do.”
The city says the memorial will be taken down this Friday, May 29. Mayor Ken Christian has said that when the time is right, the city will create a permanent memorial to the Snowbirds and to Capt. Jenn Casey.
