No new test positive COVID-19 cases across the Interior Health Authority for another day, but B.C. Health Officials say there have been nine new cases and one death to report.
It means there have been 2,550 cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 194 across Interior Health. There are also 162 people who have died, with the latest death in the Fraser Health area.
“Public health teams continue to provide support for community outbreaks at federal corrections facilities, the processing facilities in the poultry sector and for individuals connected to the Kearl Lake plant in Alberta,” said Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.
“We are moving forward carefully into Phase 2, assessing our progress week by week, and we are encouraged by what we have seen so far.”
There are 244 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with Henry saying 2,144 people – or 84 per cent of the total number of people who tested positive – have recovered.
Thirty-seven are in hospital, seven in intensive care, the same as yesterday’s numbers, when Henry reported no new deaths for the first time in weeks.
“COVID-19 has a two-week incubation period, which means any new cases that are a result of the easing of restrictions will start to appear over the coming week,” Henry noted. “With this in mind, let’s continue to take advantage of parks and other activities closer to home, and look to increase social interactions only after fully considering the risks to you and your family.”
She says once health officials have a good understanding of how things are in mid-June, they will have the data they need to determine further actions.
