As river levels continue to rise in the Kamloops area, the province has now issued a high streamflow advisory on the South Thompson.
The BC River Forecast Centre says river levels are expected to rise with snow melting in the alpine, as temperatures hit 30 degrees in the valley.
“This includes the South Thompson River and tributaries, including the Shuswap River, North Thompson River, including the Clearwater River, and Similkameen River,” the advisory reads from the province.
Meanwhile, with a special weather statement in place in Kamloops, the province says that following the hot spell there could be significant rainfall in the Kamloops area which would accelerate the snow melt as well. That could mean between five and 15 millimetres of rain or potentially between 30-40 mm or more.
“If high rainfall amounts materialize, flood conditions are likely to occur, particularly in areas that already have elevated river levels,” the advisory says.
More to come.
