A flood watch on the Bonaparte River near Cache Creek has been downgraded to a high streamflow advisory.
That was part of a series of updates from the B.C. River Forecast Centre today, as high streamflow advisories have also been ended for several areas including the Nicola River and its tributaries downstream of Nicola Lake through Spences Bridge.
There are still high streamflow advisories in place for the North and South Thompson Rivers in the Kamloops area, with officials expecting the rivers to peak in the next few weeks. The Clearwater River continues to be under a high streamflow advisory as well, along with the Salmon River near Salmon Arm and tributaries around the North Okanagan.
“Weekend rainfall has led to high streamflow throughout the region over the past few days. Most areas have now experienced the peak river levels from this rainfall runoff,” said the River Forecast Centre in a statement. “In small and mid-sized watersheds, river levels are expected to continue to improve through this week.”
People are being told to stay away from fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks for the foreseeable future.
