For a fifth straight day, the province has had no new COVID-19 related deaths as 12 new cases were announced in British Columbia.
It brings the total positive cases in the province to 2,680 with just 185 of those cases classified as active. That means 2,328 people who tested positive have since recovered, about 87 per cent of the total.
There are 12 people in hospital with COVID-19, four of whom are in intensive care. Across Interior Health, there are still 195 test positive cases, a figure that has remained unchanged since May 28.
Officials say there have been no new community outbreaks, and public health teams are providing support for the six ongoing community outbreaks.
“Through our active surveillance and testing, we have recently identified two community clusters of COVID-19 associated with large family connections,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry. “This tells us that our public health teams are quickly identifying new cases. It also tells us that while our overall provincial cases may be low, COVID-19 is active and spreading in our communities.”
At least one of those clusters is a gathering in the Fraser Health area, where at the last update, 15 people had tested positive for COVID-19, with Dr. Henry calling it a warning sign.
“When you bring households together, regardless of how many people that may include, everyone brings their own risk with them and the potential for spreading COVID-19 increases,” Henry said. “This is why fewer faces and bigger spaces needs to continue to be our guidepost for how we move forward.”
A breakdown of total cases by health region is below:
Vancouver Coastal Health – 911
Fraser Health – 1,378
