B.C. Health Officials are reporting 10 new COVID-19 cases today for a total of 2,878 cases in the province. That total includes a data correction of one case that was reported yesterday.
There was also one new death announced in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, bringing B.C.’s total death toll to 174 people. None of the new cases were in the Interior Health Authority, which remains at 199 total cases.
All told, there are 159 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. Seventeen people are in hospital, five of whom are in intensive care, and the remaining 2,545 people who tested positive now considered to have fully recovered.
No new community outbreaks or health-care facility outbreaks were reported either by Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.
Earlier this morning, the province shared data that 87 First Nations people tested positive for COVID-19 between January 1 and June 14.
“While we are encouraged by this outcome, we recognize that the result has come with hardship,” Henry said.
“The need to put aside important cultural gatherings to maintain a safe physical distance and to limit visitors has had a great social, mental and economic impact on many. It also reminds us of the resilience that First Nations communities continue to display in the face of hardships.”
Health officials are urging caution as the province moves into the first weekend under Phase 3 of its reopening plan with restrictions on travel within B.C. among the many that we eased this week.
