In Kamloops and across B.C., RCMP will be stepping up enforcement this month as part of their annual Summer CounterAttack Impaired Driving Campaign.
Supt. Holly Turton says an average of 67 people are killed each year in collisions across B.C. where alcohol, drugs, or other medications were contributing factors.
“Something which is completely avoidable. We want people to enjoy the summer, but we also want people to make good decisions and choose to drive sober every time they get behind the wheel. If everyone makes this choice, there will be fewer police officers required to take on the unimaginably difficult task of explaining why someone you care for is not coming home,” she says.
“If you do plan to drink alcohol or consume drugs of any kind, have a designated driver or plan alternate ways home. Motorists can expect to see enhanced enforcement throughout the province during the month of July and beyond. Please follow the direction of officers at any check-stops and expect short delays.”
Turton adds the COVID-19 pandemic is not an excuse for people to disregard the law.
