A 36 year old man is in police custody after he tried to flee from a Valleyview area business.
Kamloops RCMP say that around 1:40 Friday afternoon, it located the man who is well known to police and currently has multiple outstanding warrants. The individual has also caused police pursuits in the past.
Police say that officers converged on the vehicle and attempted to box it in when the man rammed a police cruiser and escaped. However, the tires on his vehicle were spiked just a short time later.
The suspect then left the vehicle, but he was found arrested only a short time later thanks to the assistance of the public and a police service dog.
RCMP say the man will be held for weekend court for the outstanding warrants along with new charges from today’s incident.
Sgt Jeff Bingley says “police have been hunting this individual down to arrest him for too long and it’s great to have him off the streets.”
