Charges are expected after Kamloops RCMP seized drugs, money, and weapons in three ‘incidents of interest’ yesterday and today.
The first happened around 10 a.m. on July 16, in the 200-block of Tranquille Road. RCMP say they were tipped off that people were coming and going from a vehicle where they were buying drugs. On searching the vehicle, police say they seized about 177 grams of suspected fentanyl, along with an air pistol and an electric baton, as well as close to $25,000 in cash.
Later the same day, the RCMP’s Target Enforcement Unit searched a North Shore house where again a substantial amount of suspected fentanyl was seized along with two firearms and about $5,000 in cash. In both cases, police note a vehicle was also seized.
The third incident happened around 3 a.m. Friday morning, after a single vehicle collision on Hillside Drive at Pacific Way. On searching the vehicle, police say they seized another 93 grams of suspected cocaine and an undisclosed amount of money.
“All‐in‐all, we believed that all these drugs seizures represent approximately $70,000 worth street value,” Staff Sgt. Mat van Laer said. “We don’t need to remind anyone in Kamloops about the opioid crisis that has affected us all, or the drug related violence that we observed in recent years.”
“Seizing this amount of drugs, money and dangerous weapons is nothing short than outstanding work from our members, helping keeping the community safe”
Police aren’t disclosing if these incidents are linked just yet, nor will they release names just yet. van Laer says a number of suspects related to these three incidents have been identified, and the information will be forwarded to Crown Counsel.
