Two fires currently burning in the Merritt-area are currently being held, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
Fire Information Officer Madison Smith says the Skuhun Creek fire along Highway 8 between Merritt and Spences Bridge is still mapped at 28 hectares.
“Today there are 40 personnel on site and the cause is still under investigation,” she told NL News. “We don’t anticipate any further spread beyond the existing boundaries due to suppression tactics.”
She notes there are 20 wildfire personnel on scene of a second smaller four-hectare fire near Brookmere.
“We did have our crews out there until 3:30 this morning working on establishing a fire guard with heavy equipment,” Smith said. “The team is still out there working on their investigation but it is suspected to be human caused.”
There are no structures being threatened by either fire.
